Wedding Venues: Frankston to Portsea
The possibilities are endless! The Mornington Peninsula is famous for its
beaches
and parks. You may choose to be married in an outdoor setting - perhaps at
a
beach, park, winery, yacht-club, golf club or garden.
Alternatively, you may wish to have your wedding in a home, hotel or function
centre. It's a personal choice. Most beaches, parks and reserves need to be
booked and you should contact the local council or appropriate authority.
Beach Weddings: Bayside
•
Mt Eliza: Davey's Bay - lovely outlook, limited car-parking.
• Mornington: Schnapper Point - good access, great
outlook.
Mothers' and Mills Beaches - good, safe
location, easy access.
• Dromana: Good locations, from Safety Beach to McCrae,
easy access.
• Rye: Many suitable locations on the beach itself,
or along the foreshore.
• Sorrento: Good location, limited access during summer.
• Portsea: Very limited access to the beach.
§ For all the above venues, no fee,
but booking required with the Shire of
Mornington Peninsula.
• Frankston: Waterfront Reserve from
Long Island to Davey's Bay, many suitable
areas for weddings, good access but can be crowded in summer, no fee,
but booking required with City of Frankston.
Beach Weddings: Ocean and Bass Strait Side
• Portsea: Ocean beach - beautiful view, good access
and parking.
• Sorrento: Beautiful scenery, good access and parking.
• Gunnamatta: Open beach, good access and parking.
• Cape Schanck Lighthouse: Limited sea view from grassed area.
• Flinders: Blow Hole - spectacular and dramatic scenery.
Access is along
a narrow but well maintained path. Unsuitable for elderly. Limited
parking
• Flinders up to West Head: Ocean beach and the cliffs
adjacent to the
golf course, beautiful views, easy access and ample car-parking.

Booking required and fee payable ($302) to Parks
Victoria.
Beach Weddings: Westernport Side
• Flinders from West Head, Shoreham, Balnarring, Somers & Hastings:
Good locations along the foreshore reserves, easy access to
beach and ample
parking. No fee, but booking required with the Shire of Mornington
Peninsula.
Parks and Garden Weddings
• Frankston: George Pentland Botanical
Gardens, lovely park with a lake.
No shelter for poor weather.
Ballam Park Homestead and Gardens-"olde worlde
charm",easy access.
For both above locations, no fee, but booking required with City of
Frankston.
• Dame Elisabeth Murdoch Arboretum Langwarrin: Attractive,
small park,
colorful trees and shrubs, small rotunda, fee payable to City of Frankston.
• Seawinds, Arthurs Seat: Big park with beautiful sea
views but long walks to
look-outs.No shelter for poor weather. Fee payable ($295 ) to Parks
Victoria.
• Coolart, Somers: Beautiful park, imposing homestead
and surrounds.
Excellent shelter for poor weather. Fee payable ($295) to Parks Victoria.
• The Briars, Mt Martha: Nice park and historic homestead
with rural outlook.
Good shelter. Fee payable to the Shire of Mornington Peninsula.
• Sorrento Park: Lovely park with good bay views and
easy access but can
be crowded in summer. Shelter with rotunda for up to 50 people. No
fee, but
booking required with the Shire of Mornington Peninsula.
• Rose Garden, Mornington: Extensive garden with 4000
roses, in bloom
from November to May. Good shelter, with rotunda for up to 100 people.
• Pt Nepean National Park, Portsea: 3 locations, Fort
Nepean, Fort Pearce,
and Observatory Point. Dramatic coastal scenery, cars not permitted
beyond
Gunners car-park but transporter available. Wind and flies can be a
problem.
Fee payable to Parks Victoria.
• Red Hill & Merricks: Picturesque hinterland of
rolling hills with a tapestry
of orchards, farms and vineyards. Many attractive venues.
There are also a few private gardens available for wedding ceremonies, with
a fee
payable. Wineries, Vineyards and Reception Venues are numerous - some have
beautiful surroundings and vistas. However, they are usually only available
if the
reception is to be held there.
